I am a person of convenience, I truly am. I like for things to be organized and to run smoothly but more than that I just don’t like spending more time or energy on anything than I absolutely have to. Perfect example, I gave Charlie some Ritz crackers this morning for breakfast because I was too lazy to run out and buy dog food. Anyway, below are five easy ways to simplify, organize and subtly beautify your day. I guarantee that if you do these things for a week solid you will feel lighter all over.
#1. Make your bed as soon as you wake. This only takes 30 seconds, maybe 45 at the most. If there is still someone in the bed, well, I guess you wait for them to get up or wake them with a kiss and a cup of coffee before you throw gently shove them out of bed?
#2. Load your dirty utensils into the dishwasher by type and with the handles up. Spoons with spoons, forks with forks, knives with knives. When it’s time to unload, you just grab a fist full and put them in the proper spot. No sorting!
#3. Open your mail over the trash can & recycling bin. Open up all bills, toss/recycle the two envelopes (old and return), place bills immediately on your desk/bulletin board or other spot where you will work with them later and take everything else to the proper people/places in your home.
#4. Do a 5 minute blitz declutter of the most annoying & junky flat surface in your home (which is always the first spot your eyes land on when you walk into the house).
Does this look familiar?
But wouldn’t you rather have this?
Ahhh….so would I!
#5. Clean sweep your car for trash, stuff, junk, gunk every time you get out of it. If you are doing it every day it becomes so much more manageable and it is really nice to have this the next time you get in
instead of this.
I’m absolutely certain that by trying these new things for a solid week, you’ll lose 5 pounds. Not really, but you will feel a little bit lighter all over. Happy simplifying and let me know how it goes!

Great ideas, Hannah! I’m especially motivated to do the dishwasher tip. Also, I like the idea of setting a timer and cleaning as much as possible in that time. Keep them coming!
Love these ideas! I do some of them, but I don’t sort my silverware….Great Idea! I think you are really on to something with your new gig!!
ewww! flat surfaces are my #1 enemy. but i think 5 mins a day might keep the junk at bay.
I need these tips in my life. Espcially the car one. Ouch!
That’s really interesting. Thanks for posting all the great information! Had never thought of it all that way before.
I call it the “10 min tango” 🙂 10 min to take away the surface mess, daily.
PS – Loooove this font. I’m in love. Love the site too!
Love your tips! I’m guilty of not organizing the flatware in the right direction all of the time. It’s tough getting the kids follow the act. Now, if there was only a tip to train the kids! 🙂
